Beginning on February 28, 2024, the amended Tree Law will go into effect. This law will require permits for the removal of any tree exceeding six inches in diameter (measured at a height of four feet from the ground) from any private property larger than 7,500 square feet within the Unincorporated Town of Mamaroneck. On February 28, 2025, a permit will be required on all parcels regardless of size.
As a part of this permit, replacement trees will be required for each tree removed and there will be a limit set on the number of trees that can be removed within a 12-month period. Replacement tree species must be selected from the approved tree list.
For more information on the new requirements, read the full text of the amended tree law.
You must apply for a tree permit online. You will need to set up an account with our software company, Viewpoint Cloud Permit Software (OpenGov) the first time you log in. For Permits to remove up to 7 trees, applications are available under the heading "Conservation". If you wish to remove more than 7 trees, an application must be made to the Planning Board in the Land Use section of the permit portal.
